LINK Strategic Partners Awarded 3 Communitas Awards for Its Commitment to Pro Bono Projects in the DMV

Prestigious awards honors best pro bono service internationally

WASHINGTON (November 30, 2018)LINK Strategic Partners is proud to announce its three awards of recognition for pro bono services that have ripple effects on communities. LINK was recognized for its work with PetConnect Rescue, an animal rescue group based in Potomac, MD; Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights (CAIR) Coalition, an organization that advocates for all immigrants at risk of detention and deportation in the Washington, DC region; and for LINK President Michael Akin’s commitment to pro bono services that benefit communities in need.

In the LINK’s first year of supporting CAIR Coalition, the firm helped the organization to simplify legal terms and processes into easy-to-digest information, created a one-pager and provided media relations support in the wake of the ongoing family separation crisis. CAIR Coalition recently worked with LINK to create a booklet on their Immigration Impact Lab program.

LINK serves as PetConnect’s on-call media and communications partner. Over the past year, LINK facilitated the creation of a media kit, provided media training, editorial services and media pitching. These services helped to bring the important stories of animal rescues and fundraising events to local and regional outlets.

President Michael Akin was also honored for his individual commitment to pro bono service. From LINK’s inception, Michael placed a premium emphasis on partnering with deserving pro bono clients who are affecting positive change in their communities. When LINK began, nearly half of the client docket was pro bono. Today, its percentage of pro bono clients is 40%, and in the past six years, 20% of its clients (50 of 250) have been pro bono, with an approximate value of $1,000,000.

In addition to his pro bono support services offered through LINK, Michael serves on seven local and national non-profit boards. He is chairman emeritus of the Greater Washington Urban League, where he actively promotes the League’s role in critical local and national discussions regarding class, income, race, and equity. Michael also serves on the boards of Destination DC, Cultural Tourism DC, Think Local First DC, American Experience, Raise DC, and the International Advisory Council for Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership.

“As a social impact firm, we are deeply honored that LINK has received not one, but three Communitas Awards for our community-based work with great partners.” Akin said. “I hope that these honors bring more awareness to these organizations and the vital work they are doing!”

The Communitas Awards is an international effort to recognize exceptional businesses, organizations and individuals that are unselfishly giving of themselves and their resources, and those that are changing how they do business to benefit their communities.
